Laura Young
Lead Administrator

Laura has been involved with the rescue and training community in various capacities since 2014, including working for a time assisting with administrative duties for our parent company.
While not a dog trainer, Laura has a rich understanding of the behavioral principles we employ. She received PhD-level training in Psychology from the University of Notre Dame (all but dissertation) and worked as a psychotherapist in health care for many years. When she retired from that career, she transitioned to work as a full-time pet sitter for over a decade prior to joining A Sound Beginning Chicago.
Laura specialized in boarding high-need dogs in her home, many of whom had either medical or behavioral concerns, for which her advanced training in psychology proved to be a significant asset. Having spent several years living with well over 100 dogs of various breeds, ages, sizes, and temperaments, Laura has been able to develop a rich appreciation of many of the issues our clients seek training for, and can empathize with the pet guardians who may be navigating life with dogs who require nuanced care.
Laura has been our Lead Administrator since 2022 and is the person you will reach, whether you email, text, or call us. She will be delighted to answer your questions and walk you through our customized training recommendations based on your pet’s needs.
When not at work, Laura can often be found restoring her wooded property with native plants, photographing the plethora of wildlife that visit her yard, growing and foraging mushrooms, and discovering excellent music and author events at small venues.
