I come from a hospitality and marketing background. In my past life I had no knowledge of the wonderful world of positive reinforcement animal training. About 5 years ago my love for animals led me to A Sound Beginning (ASB). I was fostering a puppy mill dog at the time and attended a class for foster parents organized by ASB. I was blown away by everything I heard in that class that day and also by ASB’s dedication to helping shelter animals. Up until that day I had only known about the dominance-based training methods and none of that ever sat well with me, I always felt like there had to be a better way and now I had found it. I fell in love with everything I heard that day, it all made so much sense!! I wanted to learn more so I bought all the books that were on sale that day and that led me on this incredible learning journey. I read all the books but I still felt the urge to learn more so I started shadowing trainers at ASB and enrolled in the professional dog trainer course by the prestigious Karen Pryor Academy.
Becoming a professional trainer was not my goal then, I just wanted to learn more to be able to help my own dogs and the dogs I foster. But the more I learned, the more passionate I became about wanting to share this information with everyone. I decided then that the best way to be able to help many dogs would be to become a dog trainer and help people see that we don’t have to hurt, intimidate or dominate our animals to be able to live in harmony with them. I want to show you a better way to build a wonderful relationship with your dog that is rooted in trust (not fear), one with mutual respect and adoration.
I am dedicated to continuing my education and always on the lookout for new courses to deepen my knowledge and understanding. Since this field and method of training is all based in science, there is always more to learn and discover and I strive to keep up to date with the recent findings by attending annual conferences and closely following the work of the leaders in this field.
