Such efforts were critical in increasing annual adoptions by over 900%!

Firmly believing in continued education, he has traveled across the country working with a variety of species ranging from whales to pinnipeds, raptors, deer, and many others.
He has worked with over 25,000 cases regarding behavior, assessing an animal’s behavioral issues, while both training and creating a plan to stay with that animal to be implemented by shelter staff and foster groups, as well as for private owners with their pets.
Steve has taught low-stress handling and behavior modification to veterinary technician students at the college level as well as private veterinary practices and nationally recognized shelters, currently serving as a 3rd party behavior programming consultant for the highly prestigious animal welfare organization, PAWS Chicago.
His work with families in a 1-1 home setting is the key to preventing problems from getting worse while giving valuable coaching and training support to keep them together, safe, and sound. Steve believes in a holistic approach to training, utilizing concepts of operant and classical conditioning while taking into account breed and contextual behaviors to best help address behavior concerns as well as help owners make the most of their relationship and performance with their animals.
An avid outdoorsman at heart, Steve and his family enjoy a variety of conservation and outdoor activities immensely. Steve is currently a state-licensed falconer, working daily with multiple species of raptors. He considers his passion towards raptor conservation and training to be a valued part of his commitment towards continued education in the field of animal behavior.
When he’s not training professionally, Steve enjoys training and competing in formal obedience and detection work with his two Belgian Malinois, Storm and Rain. Steve Utilizes Storm as 1 of 3 known working falconry/Malinois teams within North America. Storm's role is to produce prey-catching opportunities for rehabilitated birds destined for wild release, to help hone their skills in preparation for ultimate survival on their own. Rain is a quick study and is anticipated to join activities in the field shortly. Steve also has two other mixed-breed dogs that enjoy a variety of activities, in addition to two cats, several reptiles, and his two children (ages 5 and 6 months). Being a father and family man is his greatest joy and responsibility, and considers every day a blessing to be able to do so.
